Our History
ATMOSA has produced phthalic anhydride in Schwechat near Vienna since 1995. These are the milestones that shaped our company.
ATMOSA Petrochemie GmbH has been producing phthalic anhydride in Schwechat, Austria, since 1995. The production site itself dates back to 1968, when Chemie Linz built the plant. What began in 1995 as the European subsidiary of a Taiwanese plasticizer producer has grown into a well-established European supplier. Since 2023 the company has been wholly owned by COIM, an international specialty-chemicals group.

Plant built by Chemie Linz at the Schwechat site
The phthalic anhydride plant on Danubiastrasse is built by Chemie Linz, a subsidiary of OMV, within the industrial complex in Schwechat. The site has been producing phthalic anhydride ever since.

1977
Dahin Group founded in Taiwan
The Dahin Group is established in Taiwan by Mr. Chen as a producer of plasticizers, laying the industrial foundation from which ATMOSA would later emerge.

1995
ATMOSA Petrochemie GmbH established in Schwechat
The Dahin Group acquires the phthalic anhydride plant in Schwechat from Chemie Linz, an affiliate of OMV, and creates ATMOSA Petrochemie GmbH as its European subsidiary. Kevin Liu is appointed managing director. Production of phthalic anhydride near Vienna begins under the ATMOSA name.

1997
Energy recovery with turbine generator
ATMOSA installs a turbine generator to recycle the energy released by the exothermic oxidation reaction. This early commitment to energy-efficient production remains part of our plant concept today.

2005
Independence from the Dahin Group
ATMOSA Petrochemie GmbH detaches itself from the Dahin Group and becomes a separate business unit, with Kevin Liu as sole proprietor. The company sharpens its focus on the European market.

2017
Joint venture with COIM
COIM, the Italian specialty-chemicals group, acquires a 50% stake in ATMOSA. The company is now run as a joint venture between Kevin Liu and COIM, combining three decades of Schwechat production experience with the engineering and process knowledge of an international group.

2023
ATMOSA becomes a wholly owned COIM company
COIM acquires the remaining 50% of the shares. ATMOSA Petrochemie GmbH is now wholly owned by COIM and firmly embedded in the international COIM Group.

Today
50,000 tonnes of PA per year for Europe and the world
Today ATMOSA Petrochemie GmbH produces 50,000 tonnes of phthalic anhydride per year with around 40 employees in Schwechat and continues to supply chemical producers across Europe and worldwide, backed by the COIM Group and more than five decades of production history at the site.
